Light in textile surfaces

The automotive interior is currently undergoing probably the most extensive change since the existence of the automobile. One of the most striking innovations is the increasing integration of light as a design element.

Creative and adaptable lighting concepts are being used more and more frequently to create the ambiance in the vehicle. At the same time, lighting solutions can provide an information transport, which is only visible when functional, safety-relevant or optical elements are required.

In addition to this technology, known as Shy Tech, the company is strengthening its trend towards the use of textiles in vehicle interiors. In particular textiles made from recycled materials are becoming increasingly important. These novel materials meet both the need for a more homey interior as well as the increasing awareness for sustainability and environmental protection.

Eissmann, a company well known for its high-quality and innovative automotive interior, takes both trends into account through textile lighting solutions. Textiles can either be illuminated over a wide area or be

used to create patterns, logos, or display other information on the fabric precisely through by precise illumination. By controlling several LEDs, it is also possible to create animation on the textile surface. With this solution, Eissmann brings light and material together in an innovative way to create the vehicle interior

of tomorrow.

In doing so, Eissmann covers the whole range of technologies from development to series production starting with electronics development and lighting technology to lamination with translucent textile.

At the IZB 2022, Eissmann presented the technology demonstrator on the subject of interior lighting for the first time. The aim of the development is to present a solution that is invisible when switched off but enables a precise and homogeneous display on a softly laminated textile decor that is as independent of external light influences as possible when actively trans luminated.

The light masking developed for this purpose consists of a printed layer, which is sandwiched between the surface textile and the underlying spacer fabric. The spacer fabric fulfills two functions: It serves as a soft component and acts as an additional optical diffuser. Our extensive expertise in the field of illumination of textiles makes Eissmann a pioneer and sought-after partner in development and production of innovative applications in this product segment of the automotive industry.
