Porsche and Eissmann develop innovative crash splinter protection concept for door trims

The interior of the hybrid supercar Porsche 918 Spyder combines safety and design. Porsche AG together with Eissmann Group Automotive has developed numerous components from CFRP and GRP, both visible and structural, for the interior of the sports car. The joint development partnership has resulted in bringing to production stage an innovative splinter protection concept for carbon door trims in the event of a side impact collision.

The product portfolio of the Eissmann Group ranges from door trims (visible component), via glove compartments, mounting frames and several components (some of them visible) that can be mounted onto the instrument panel. The visible components are coated with a protective layer, in a choice of gloss or matt, to ensure that these elegant surfaces can withstand weather conditions.

The Eissmann Group Automotive carbon and glass fiber sector is managed by its joint venture Eissmann Cotesa GmbH in Saxony. Eissmann Cotesa was founded in 2010 as a collaboration with aerospace experts Cotesa GmbH. The company’s strategic focus is to satisfy the growing demand for lightweight construction in automotive engineering, and constantly extend the product portfolio.
